Overall, I found this reading to be a bit more challenging to understand. I found it interesting that many books claim to introduce gender into Jewish studies but fail to properly cover the topic of Feminism and feminist ideas. “Though the editors present the anthology as a virtual revolution in Jewish Studies, seeking to reconsider the field from a gendered perspective, it mentions feminist theory and ‘gender’ as problematics only briefly” (Fuchs 12). Feminism has been a very important part of human history so I am surprised that these views are often ignored and led me to question why. The text discusses how gender tends to just be added as another topic without discussing the impact and significnce. Gender is very important in Jewish culture and history. It has shaped the way Jews think and act. “Gender is taken for granted, that is, understood in their popular unspecialized sense” (Fuchs 14). According to the text, gender is often just accepted and just basically understood without a deeper anyalsis. Many people se gender as self-explanatory, but in today’s time, this is not alwaysd the case anymore. Gender studies have gotten from complex and many see gender to be more of a flexible term.
