Scheindlin’s translation caused me deep emotion and thinking. It was more straightforward than the other poem but maintained its raw emotion. In 11, he says, “silence those who criticize you” (Scheindlin 11). This quote means a lot to me because I relate to it. I believe that if someone has nothing positive to say, then don’t say it. It is important to follow your dreams and not let negativity from your peers stop you. In the past, I have met many negative people who attempted to bring me down, and many times they succeeded. Fortunately for me, I have learned to “silence” those people. Also, the poem teaches the reader to sit back and enjoy what life has to offer.”Immerse your heart in pleasure and joy” (Scheindlin 11). This quote also means a lot to me, as sometimes I forget to do this. I often sit in my room with the lights off and study for hours on end, forgetting to have fun.
Cole’s translation is more emotional, and I enjoyed it more. There is a section where the author mentions his deep affection and love towards someone. “Love in me stirs, and I bound like a deer just to see my lady’s eyes” (Cole, Love In Me Stirs). I personally can relate to this quote because I am in a long-distance relationship with my girlfriend. I love her very much; this quote describes how I feel around her.
