My Day at the Allentown Fair 9/3/2023
As my friends and I approach the fair, we are filled with excitement as we hear laughter in the distance. We purchase tickets and walk through the gates. An aroma of funnel cake and deep-fried Oreos filled the air. There were many things happening all at once. There were rides, games, and so many people. As we walk in line for the swing ride, our hearts begin to pump with excitement. We hand the man our tickets and sit on the ride. We are lifted off the ground and into the air. Feeling the wind in my face and through my hair felt so good. We rode that same ride three times in a row. We all felt sick to our stomachs afterward, but we still had a great time.
Some time passed and our stomachs started to make noises and rumble. We sat down and enjoyed a plate of funnel cake. We got powder all over our clothes, lips, and fingers. I look over to my right and I see a small tank of several tiny goldfish surrounded by bright blue strip lights. I couldn’t resist walking over to get a better look. I give the lady at the game stand ten dollars to play. I was not going home without a goldfish. To win the game, the player must toss a ping pong ball in a small vase. I channel out any distractions and take two deep breaths. My friends cheered me on from behind me. I had two tries to win. I tossed the ping pong ball and unfortunately, I missed, but on my second try, I won. My friends and I celebrated as we walked away with our new fish.
Before the night ended, we agreed that it was a must to ride the Ferris wheel. So many different lights shone on our faces as we walked over. It was almost blinding. The Ferris wheel takes us up and we get a stunning view of the fair. So many different colors fill the sky. The sunset in the background made the experience even better. I did not want the moment to end.
My friend reminded us that there was a petting zoo nearby. We excitedly agreed to go. As you enter, there is a foul smell of farm animals and manure. There were dozens of goats, sheep, and cows. I had never seen a cow in person before so I was so excited. The animals had such soft and fluffy fur but were surrounded by hundreds of flies. I felt very bad for them. I found it very cruel to use animals for entertainment purposes and make a profit from it, but I was not going to let that ruin my day. We spend about an hour there and then head back to campus. I will never forget my day at the Allentown Fair and my friends won’t either. We had such a great time and plan to come back next year.
